Aryabhata, the 5th century Indian, calculated the sidereal rotation (the rotation of the earth referencing the fixed stars) as 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4.1 seconds and the value for the length of the sidereal year as 365 days, 6 hours, 12 minutes, and 30 seconds (365.25858 days), which is 99.99939 % of the modern respective values.

पांचवीं सदी के भारतीय आर्यभट के अनुसार पृथ्वी के  नाक्षत्र घूर्णन का समय 23 घंटे, 56 मिनट, और 4.1 सेकंड तथा नाक्षत्र वर्ष में 365 दिन, 6 घंटे, 12 मिनट, और 30 सेकंड (365.25858 दिन) हैं;  जो कि आधुनिक आंकड़ों का ९९.९९९३९ है।
