On February 16, 1980, Konark in Odisha, India, was directly on the path of a total solar eclipse. Konark Sun Temple is a 13th-century Sun Temple at Konark in Odisha, India. Built around 1250 CE, the temple is in the shape of a gigantic chariot elaborately carved stone wheels, pillars and walls. It has 12 wheels (one for each month) and driven by seven horses (one representing a day each of the week). A major part of the structure is now in ruins. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

कोणार्क सूर्य मंदिर १३वीं सदी में बनाया गया था और ये उड़ीसा के कोणार्क में स्थित है। इसका रूप एक विशाल रथ  के समान है जिसके पहिये, खम्भे व दीवारें भी देखी जा सकती हैं। इसके १२ पहिये वर्ष के हर माह का व ७ घोड़े एक सप्ताह के हर एक दिन का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं। यह मंदिर उनेस्को का विश्व विरासत स्थल है। 16 फरवरी १९८० के दिन, यह स्थान सम्पूर्ण सूर्य ग्रहण के पथ पर स्थित था।
