When someone makes fun of his/her spouse in public, he/she does not do so to please the spouse but to display his/her artificial one-upmanship over the spouse to others at the cost of displeasure of the spouse and the belittlement of him/herself.

जब कोई अपने जीवनसाथी का दूसरों के सामने मज़ाक बनाता है, तो वह उसको खुश करने के लिए नहीं बल्कि दूसरों को अपनी नकली श्रेष्ठता का दिखावा करने के लिए ऐसा करता है। परन्तु अंततः ऐसा व्यक्ति स्वयं ही अपने जीवनसाथी व दूसरों की नज़रों में छोटा बन के रह जाता है।
