INDIRA GANDHI January 19, 1966:   She was sworn in as 3rd Prime Minister of India. She held this position for three consecutive terms from 1966 to 1977 and for a fourth term from 1980 until her assassination in 1984, a total of fifteen years. She is India's only female prime minister to date. She is also the world's all-time longest serving female Prime Minister.
