- A mountain pass in the Himalayas on the
Indo–China border connecting the Indian state of Sikkim with
the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
- A part of an offshoot of the ancient Silk Road.
- Nathu La is one of the three trading border posts
between China and India; the other two are Shipkila
in Himachal Pradesh and Lipulekh (or
Lipulech) in Uttarakhand.
- It was sealed by India after the 1962
Sino-Indian War, and was re-opened on this day
following various bilateral trade agreements.
- Finally, after a decade of talks, Nathu La was opened on
6 July 2006. The date of the reopening,
which also formally recognised Tibet as part of China by
India and Sikkim's accession to India, coincided with the
birthday of the reigning Dalai Lama.

Delhi high court and slashed punitive damages to be paid by
cinema owners Ansal brothers from ₹2.5 crore to ₹25 lakh.
- August 19, 2015: Supreme court of
India imposed a fine on Ansal brothers for ₹ 30 crores each
and held that their jail terms will be reduced to the term
already undergone by them if they pay the fine, considering
their old age.

- 59 people died, mostly due to
suffocation, and 103 were seriously injured
in the resulting stampede.
