March 12, 1930: It began on this day, as a
march on foot by Mahatma Gandhi along with about 80 non-violent
volunteers. It was a 240 mile long protest journey (from Sabarmati
Ashram to Dandi) to defy the British law relating to their monopoly in
producing salt. It was undertaken as a part of the first phase of
civil disobedience movement from March 12, 1930 to March 05, 1931. |
