DALAI LAMA March 17, 1959 - During the 1959 Tibetan uprising, the Dalai Lama, who regards the uprising as an expression of widespread discontent, fled to India (reached India on this day), where he denounced the People's Republic of China and established a Tibetan Government in exile.
