- July 24, 2006 - He became the
first Indian shooter to win a World Championship gold
in Zagreb.
- August 11, 2008 - He won the
gold medal in the men's 10 m air rifle shooting
event. In doing so, he won the first ever individual gold
medal for India, and the first medal in any event for India
at the Beijing Games.
- October 29, 2010 - He was the
first of many thousands of relay runners who
carried the baton for the New Delhi 2010
Commonwealth Games, across the globe. The New Delhi
2010 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay
commenced from Buckingham Palace on this day with
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passing the baton in the
presence of former President of India, Pratibha Patil.

published his autobiography, A Shot at
History: My Obsessive Journey to Olympic Gold which he
co-authored with sportswriter Rohit Brijnath in October
2011. It was formally released by Union Sports minister,
Ajay Maken on this day at a function in New Delhi
- September 27, 2015: He clinched
the gold medal in the men's 10m Air Rifle event of the Asian
Air Gun Championships in New Delhi on this day.
- August 06, 2016 - As the Rio Olympic
Games get underway, the athletes' parade included the Indian
contingent, led by its flag bearer and the
only individual Olympic gold medallist, Abhinav Bindra, who
entered the stadium as the 95th country. Around 70 Indian
athletes (out of 118) and 24 officials took part in the
march past.
