General He was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. In 1831, he went into business, where he proved to be a failure. So he entered politics, but here also he achieved no success. So he reverted back to business in 1834, but he again suffered a failure. In 1841, he had a nervous breakdown. After recovery, he again entered the political arena. He was defeated in the first two chances to run for the Senate in 1855 and 1858 respectively. Ultimately, he was elected president in 1860. He is now known as the architect of modern America. Lincoln led the United States through its greatest constitutional, military, and moral crises—the American Civil War. He succeeded in passing the law, which finally freed all slaves nationwide in December 1865.
