- December 24, 1999:
Indian Airlines Flight 814 - Hijacked
- It was en route from Kathmandu, Nepal to Delhi,
India on this day, when it was hijacked.
Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, a Pakistan-based Islamic extremist
group, was accused of the hijacking. Hijackers ordered
the aircraft to be flown to several locations. After
touching down in Amritsar, Lahore and Dubai, the
hijackers finally forced the aircraft to land in the
then Taliban controlled Kandahar, Afghanistan. The
hijackers released 27 of 176 passengers in Dubai. The
motive for the hijacking was to secure the release of
Islamist terrorists held in prison in India. The hostage
crisis lasted for seven days and ended after India
agreed to release three militants – Mushtaq Ahmed
Zargar, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and Maulana Masood
Azhar. These militants have since been implicated in
other terrorist actions, such as 9/11, the kidnap and
murder of Daniel Pearl and Mumbai terror attacks.
- February 14, 1990:
Indian Airlines Flight 605 - Crashed
- Indian Airlines Flight 605 was an A320 fly-by-wire
flight that crashed on its final approach to Bangalore
airport, killing 92 people.
- The aircraft, an Airbus A320-231, flew from Mumbai
(formerly Bombay) airport to Bangalore-Hindustan
Airport.
- The probable cause was reported as the pilots'
failure to properly understand the aircraft's reactions
behaviour in different modes of operations. There
appeared to be some confusion with the automatic radio
altitude announcements and to increase thrust, as the
aircraft was in idle/open descent mode.

855 Crash
- Air India Flight 855
Emperor Ashoka, a Boeing 747-237B crashed into the Arabian
Sea after take-off from Mumbai killing everyone on board
(213 persons; 190 passengers, 23 crew).
- January 24, 1966 - Air India Flight 101
Kanchenjunga, a Boeing 707–420 carrying 117 people (106
passengers and 11 crew) crashed on Mont Blanc, France
killing all on board including the noted Indian scientist,
Homi J. Bhabha.
- November 03,1950: Air
India Flight 245 Crash.
- Malabar Princess, a Lockheed L-749
Constellation carrying 48 people (40 passengers and eight
crew), flying on the Bombay-Cairo-Geneva-London route,
crashed on Mont Blanc in France killing all on board.
- December 27, 1947:
An Air India DC-3
crashed in Karachi.
- The plane carrying 23 people (19 passengers and four crew) en route
from Karachi to Bombay, lost control after take-off from
Karachi International Airport due to an instrument failure
and crashed, killing all on board. This was the airline's
first fatal accident.
