father, who said the appointment was illegal.

Mulayam Singh Yadav, recognised the decision of the Election
Commission of India to accept Akhilesh as party president.
March 19, 2017: He retired
and stepped down as Chief Minister of UP, after his party's
defeat by the BJP in UP assembly elections. Samajadi Party
could muster only 55 seats.
July 31, 2017: Rajya Sabha
MP and former Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh
likened SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to Aurangzeb and said his
father Mulayam Singh Yadav was likened to Shah Jahan. He
further said "One who cannot honour his father loses trust
of people as well". Mughal emperor Aurangzeb had held his
father Shah Jahan captive after a tussle for the throne.
