England. He took 118 Test matches to reach his maiden Test
hundred, which is a record for taking the most number of
matches to score a century.
November 08, 2007: He
was appointed as the captain of the Indian Test cricket team
on this day, succeeding Rahul Dravid, who resigned as the
captain in September 2007.
January 18, 2008: He got his
600th wicket on this day at Perth in a test match between

June 20, 2017: He stepped
down as India coach after a successful one-year term. Under
him, India won Test series against West Indies, New Zealand,
England, Bangladesh and Australia. India also reached the
final of the Champions Trophy before losing to Pakistan by
180 runs.

batsman.
As of 2012, he is the leading wicket-taker for India in
both Test cricket and One Day International cricket.
He is one of the two bowlers and the only
Indian cricketer in the history of cricket to have taken all
10 wickets in a test innings, the other being Jim Laker of
England.
He has taken more than 600 wickets in test
cricket. He is the third highest wicket-taker in Test
cricket and the first bowler from India to do so.
Kumble took his first 50 Test wickets in
just 10 Test matches, the fastest by any Indian bowler.
