developed half the roads in last 32 years in their 5-year

- At first instance, he was the Prime Minister just for
thirteen days in 1996.
- At the second instance, he was the Prime Minister for
the full term from 1998 to 2004.
- He was a leader of the centre-right Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP).
- He was the first Prime Minister from outside the Indian
National Congress party to serve a full five-year term.
- He has been parliamentarian for over four decades. He
was elected to the Lok Sabha (the lower house of India's
Parliament) nine times.
- He was elected twice to the Rajya Sabha (upper house).
- In 2009 he retired from active politics due to health
concerns.
- He was one amongst the founder members of erstwhile
