- He was the son of
Bajirao I.
He was appointed as Peshwa
by Chattrapati Shahu, grandson of
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,
himself.
- Maratha power in India reached
its peak under his reign and the
borders of Maratha Empire
crossed Peshawar (presently
in Pakistan) by 1760 AD .
- However, he died as a totally
dejected person after his
defeat in the third Battle of
Panipat on January 14, 1761
fought against Afghans under
Ahmed Shah Durrani.
