After a meeting with Guru Gobind Singh on this day, he became a Sikh.
He got Guru Gobind Singh ji’s blessings in
1708 when the latter gave him the new name of Banda
Singh Bahadur.
Soon thereafter, he led the struggle against the
Mughal Empire.
After establishing his authority in Punjab, he abolished
the zamindari system, and granted
property rights to the tillers of the land.
May 12, 1710:
On this day, in the Battle of
Chappar Chiri the Sikhs killed Wazir Khan, the
Governor of Sirhind, and Dewan Suchanand, who were
responsible for the martyrdom of the two youngest sons of
Guru Gobind Singh ji.
August 29, 1710:
The entire Imperial force had one mission, i.e. to
kill Banda Singh. To ensure that there were
no Sikh agents in the army camps, an order was issued on
this day to all Hindus to
shave off their beards.
December 10, 1710:
Having failed to catch Banda Singh, the emperor Bahadur
Shah on this day ordered that wherever a Sikh was found, he
should be murdered.
February 18, 1712:
The
Emperor became mentally disturbed and died on
this day.
December 07, 1715:
On this day, Banda Singh Bahadur
was captured from the Gurdas Nangal fort and put in
an iron cage.
June 09, 1716:
On this day, Banda Singh’s eyes were gouged out, his
limbs were
severed, his skin removed, and
then he was killed.
Commemorations
June 21, 2016 - Finance Minister, Arun jaitley,
Govt. of India, released a silver coin to mark
300th Martyrdom Day of Banda Singh Bahadur.
