- A strong advocate of mass education.
- The founder of Rayat Education Society,
one of the most important educational institutions in
Maharashtra. The first word RAYAT in the
name of Shikshan Sanstha established by him means
masses in Marathi language.
- A propagator of the philosophy of earn and learn.
Thereby he played an important role in opening the gates for
imparting education to the poor and the backward
classes.
- A prominent member of the Satyashodhak Samaj
(Truth Seekers' Society) founded by Mahatma Jyotirao
Phule.
- After his encounter with Mahatma Gandhi,
he decided to adopt Khadi attire and follow
Gandhian principles in everyday living.
- He established more than 100 schools in Mahatma
Gandhi's name.
- Due to his unprecedented service to the masses, he was
honoured with the title KARMAVEER (King of actions).
