- 1928: He was opposed to the
all-European Simon Commission formed in 1928 by the British
to formulate constitutional reforms in India.
- 1928: He successfully
represented the farmers of Gujarat in the inquiry by the
British Government following the Bardoli Satyagraha in 1928,
protesting oppressive taxation policies in a time of
famine.
- 1930: He formally joined
the Congress.
- 1932: He formed the
Swadeshi Sabha to boycott foreign goods. The Sabha was
declared illegal and he was arrested.
- November 1934: Desai was
elected to the Central Legislative Assembly from Gujarat.
- November 19, 1940: He
addressed the House on this day, making a strong plea
against sending Indian soldiers to fight the World War
II.
- December 10, 1940:
Participating in the satyagraha initiated by Mahatma Gandhi,
he was arrested and jailed.
- September, 1941: He was
released from jail on grounds of poor health.
- October 1945: When three
captured Indian National Army (INA) officers were put on
trial for treason, for which the court-martial hearing began
in this month at the Red Fort. Bhulabhai was the leading
counsel for the defence.
