- 1942: He joined the Indian
Army. Soon he was deployed as wireless officer and posted in
Abbottabad (now in Pakistan).
- 1950: He married Leela, the
daughter of industrialist A.K Nair, after whom he would name
his future hotel chain.
- 1951: He resigned from the
Army.
- 1957: He founded
Leela Lace Ltd., a textile company.
- 1986: In this year, he
became the Founder-Chairman of the Leela Group
of Hotels.
- 2009: He was awarded the
"Hotelier of The Century" Award by International Hotels and
Restaurant Association, based in Geneva, Switzerland.
- February 07, 2013: He
stepped down as the chairman of Hotel Leela on this day and
was succeeded by his eldest son, Vivek Nair.
- 2010: He was honoured with
PADMA BHUSHAN Award by the Govt of India.
