Title CRIMINAL TRIBES ACT Date-wise Events October 12, 1871 - Enacted. Description Enacted by the British rulers in India. The Act named over 160 local communities 'Criminal Tribes', i.e. hereditary criminals. It was repealed in 1949, after Independence of India.
