Description
  • It struck the city of Madras (now Chennai) in the Madras Presidency on 13 and 14 November 1721.
  • It was one of the most severe in the history of the city and destroyed bridges and even suburban villages.
  • The damages were huge and three ships of the British East India Company were lost.
  • The Island Bridge connecting Fort St George with The Island was badly damaged as a result of the cyclone.
