- She was born in Azamgarh, U.P. and was of Armenian
descent.
- She was one of the first performers to record music on
78 rpm records in India, and released by Gramophone Company
of India.
- She is credited with popularising Hindustani classical
music such as thumri, dadra, kajri, tarana during 1920-1920
when she recorded over 600 songs in more than 10 languages.
