  • She was born in Azamgarh, U.P. and was of Armenian descent.
  • She was one of the first performers to record music on 78 rpm records in India, and released by Gramophone Company of India.
  • She is credited with popularising Hindustani classical music such as thumri, dadra, kajri, tarana during 1920-1920 when she recorded over 600 songs in more than 10 languages.
1887 She gave her maiden performance at the royal courts of Darbhanga Raj in 1887 and was appointed as court musician.
Nov 08, 1902 India's first recording sessions began on this day and included her among others.
December 1911 She was invited to perform at the coronation of King George V at Delhi Durbar.
Aug 01, 1928 In her final days, she moved to Mysore at the invitation of Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV of Mysore, appointed her as a 'Palace musician' on this day.
