September 1992: She was
criticized for defying the orders of her seniors, after she
made a mark for herself by conducting a raid into mafia don
Abdul Latif’s hideout in Ahmedabad.
1998: As DIG, Gandhinagar,
she took on powerful politicians, and consequently, was
shunted out as principal of training academy in Vadodara.
2006: She served as the
supervisory officer in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh case,
after an inquiry was initiated on direction from the Supreme
Court.
April 2015: The Gujarat
government promoted her to the rank of DGP while she was
serving as Managing Director of the Gujarat State Police
Housing Corporation in Gandhinagar.
April 04, 2017: She
became the first woman IPS officer to be appointed as the
police chief of Gujarat. She replaced P.P. Pandey, s
relieved as Gujarat DGP on April 03, 2017, following Supreme
Court's observations.
General
She is a 1982 batch IPS officer.
She came under the scanner of Supreme Court of India
during her stints with the Special Investigating Team (SIT)
which probed the post-Godhra train burning riots.
Supreme Court of India had questioned her role as
investigating officer in Sohrabuddin and tulsiram Prajapati
fake encounter cases.
CBI once alleged that she delayed the investigations
into the Prajapati case and destroyed some vital records.
