December 23, 1940 - HAL was established
as Hindustan Aircraft in Bangalore on this day.
July 29, 1941 - This day witnessed the
first flight
of the first indigenously assembled aircaft (HARLOW PC-5A
basic trainer aircraft).
April 02, 1942 - The government
announced that the company had been nationalised when it had
bought out the stakes of Seth Walchand Hirachand and other
promoters.
October 01, 1964 - HAL was formed by
merger of the then existing Hindustan Aircraft with
Aeronautics India Limited and Aircraft Manufacturing Depot,
Kanpur.
April 01, 2015 - HAL
reconstituted its Board with Mr. TS Raju as CMD,
Mr. S Subrahmanyan as Director (Operations), Mr. VM Chamola
as Director (HR), CA Ramana Rao as Director (Finance) and
Mr. D K Venkatesh as Director (Engineering & R&D).
Description
Originally, Hindustan Aircraft was set up at Bangalore
by Seth Walchand Hirachand in association with the princely
state of Mysore in December, 1940.
The Government of India became shareholder in March,
1941 and took over its management in the next year.
HAL's present product-mix includes Agricultural
aircraft, Fighter aircraft, Helicopters, Engines, Trainer
aircraft, Transport and passenger aircraft, Gliders,
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, etc.
Its present ongoing coveted project is "Production
TEJAS Light Combat Aircraft" which has since been
inducted into the Indian Air Force.
