  • Jun 26, 1539:   On this day, Sher Shah Suri faced Humayun in the Battle of Chausa and defeated him.
  • May 17, 1540:   He lost Mughal territories on this day to Sher Shah Suri.
  • February 22, 1555:   He, with Persian (Safavid) aid, regained the lost Mughal territories 15 years later on this day.
Special Achievements / Events
  • He ruled over territory in what is now Afghanistan, Pakistan, and parts of northern India from 1531–1540 and again from 1555–1556.
  • His rule spanned almost one million square kilometers.
  • He succeeded his father, Babur, in 1531, as ruler of the Mughal territories in India.
  • At the age of 23 Humayun was relatively inexperienced ruler when he came to power.
  • After his death, his body was laid to rest in Purana Qila (Old fort) in Delhi initially.
  • Because of attack by Hemu (Samrat Hem Chandra Vikramaditya) on Delhi and capture of Purana Qila, Humayun's body was exhumed by the fleeing army and transferred to Kalanaur in Punjab. His tomb stands in Delhi, where he was re-buried later.
