- January 02, 1954:
BHARAT RATNA AWARD - Instituted on this day.
- On this day, it was established as India's highest
civilian award, presented by Govt of India.
- The first recipients of this award were Chakravarti
Rajagopalachari, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and
Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman.
- The award was originally instituted for outstanding
and exceptional achievements in the Arts, Literature,
Science and Public Services but the government expanded
the criteria to include “any field of human endeavour”.
- The number of annual awards is restricted to a
maximum of three in a particular year.
- 1954: PADMA AWARDS: Instituted
in the year 1954.
- Padma Awards, viz. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan
and Padma Shri awards are for exceptional and
distinguished service in any field including service
rendered by Government servants.
- Padma Vibhushan is the second
highest civilian award in India. Given for exceptional
distinguished services in any field including Government
service.
- Padma Bhushan is the third highest
civilian award in India. Given for distinguished
services of a high order in any field including
Government service.
- Padma Shri is the fourth highest
civilian award in India. Given for distinguished
services in any field including Government service.
- GALLANTRY AWARDS:
- January 26, 1950: War-time
gallantry awards:
- Param Vir Chakra: It is India’s
highest award for war time bravery and gallantry.
Mahavir Chakra: It is the second
highest war time gallantry award.
Vir Chakra: It is the third highest
war time gallantry award.
- 1952: Peace-time gallantry
awards:
- Ashok Chakra Award – An Indian
military decoration awarded for valour, courageous
action or self-sacrifice away from the battlefield.
It is the peacetime equivalent of the Param Vir
Chakra.
- Kirti Chakra – Second in order
of precedence of peacetime gallantry awards.
- Shaurya Chakra – Third in order
of precedence of peacetime gallantry awards.
- 1901: NOBEL PRIZES:
- The most coveted international award of the world.
- It was instituted by Alfred Bernard Nobel (Inventor
of dynamite, etc.).
- The award is given December 10 every year, the death
anniversary of Alfred Bernard Nobel.
- Nobel Prize is given to those eminent persons who
have made pioneering achievements in the following
fields:
- Physics - since 1901.
- Chemistry - since 1901.
- Medicine - since 1901.
- Peace - since 1901.
- Literature - since 1901.
- Economics - instituted in 1967 and was first
given in 1969.
- LITERATURE AWARDS:
- May 22, 1961: Jnanapith Award -
Introduced on this day:
- It is the highest literary honour
conferred in India and presented by the Jnanpith
Trust, founded by the Sahu Jain
family, publishers of The Times of India.
- The award carries a cheque for Rs. 500,000,
a citation plaque and a bronze
replica of Goddess Vagdevi (Saraswati).
- Any Indian citizen who writes in any of the
official languages of India is eligible for the
honour.
- Its first recipient was Malayalam writer G.
Sankara Kurup in 1965.
- RAJASTHAN
- Padmakshi Puruskar Yojana:
- July 03, 2017:
- The name of Indira gandhi was removed from the
scheme Indira Priyadarshini Puruskar Yojana, given
to meritorious girls of Class 10 and 12 from
Rajasthan Board. So now, it will be called
'Padmakshi Puruskar Yojana', based on the name of
Goddess 'Saraswati'.
