- April 29, 1939:
Subhas
Chandra Bose had resigned from the presidency of the Indian
National Congress on this day after being outmaneuvered by
Mohandas K. Gandhi. The formation of the Forward Bloc by him
was announced to the public at a rally in Calcutta.
- June 22, 1939: It emerged
as a faction within the Indian National Congress in 1939,
led by Subhas
Chandra Bose.
- August, 1942: British
authorities banned the Forward Bloc. Its offices around the
country were ransacked.
- February 20, 1971: On this
day, just ahead of the 1971 general elections, the All India
Forward Bloc chairman Hemantha Kumar Bose was murdered in
Calcutta.
- February 24, 1971: An
emergency central committee meeting was held on this day,
which appointed P.K. Mookiah Thevar as the new chairman of
the party.
