- Mar 07, 1952: The Delhi
Legislative Assembly was first constituted on this day and
was inaugurated by the then Home Minister K. N. Katju. The
first Council of Ministers was led by Chaudhary Brahm
Prakash, who became the first Chief Minister of Delhi.
- Mar 27, 1952: The first
Delhi Legislative Assembly election to the Delhi Legislative
Assembly was held on this day. Forty-eight seats were up for
election.
- Nov 01, 1956:
Constitutional amendment through States Reorganisation Act,
1956, came into effect on this day, which meant that Delhi
was no longer a Part-C State and was made a Union Territory
under the direct administration of the President of India.
- Nov 25, 1998: The Delhi
state assembly elections 1998, were held on this day and
result declare on 28 November 1998 for Legislative Assembly
of Delhi; it led to the ouster of BJP Govt and formation of
government by Indian National Congress.
- Dec 01, 2003: The Delhi
state assembly elections 2003 were held on this day with the
results declared on Dec 04. The Indian National Congress
retained control of the Legislative Assembly.
- Oct 29, 2008: The Delhi
state assembly elections 2008 were held on this day for
Legislative Assembly of Delhi, leading to the formation of
Sheila Dikshit's government of Indian National Congress.
- Dec 04, 2013: The Delhi
Legislative Assembly election was held on this day and the
result was announced on Dec 08 resulting in formation of the
Fifth Legislative Assembly of Delhi; The Bharatiya Janata
Party won maximum number of seats, closely followed by Aam
Aadmi Party, in its first election; but this resulted in an
hung assembly.
- Feb 07, 2015: A Delhi
Legislative Assembly election was held on this day. The
results were announced on Feb 10. The Aam Aadmi Party
secured an absolute majority in the assembly, winning 67 of
the 70 seats.
- Jul 24, 2018: Delhi high
court referred to a larger bench a petition filed by some
Aam Aadmi Party MLAs challenging an Election Commission (EC)
decision disallowing them to cross-examine Prashant Patel,
the petitioner who had accused them of holding
‘office-of-profit’ upon their appointment as parliamentary
secretaries by the Delhi government led by Arvind Kejriwal
- Jul 04, 2018: On this day,
the Supreme Court of India said that Delhi can’t
be given statehood but LG cannot
obstruct the functioning of the Delhi Govt. A
reference was also made to the 1989 Balakrishnan Committee
report that had dealt with reasons for not granting the
status of a state to Delhi.

- It consists of an executive, led by the Lieutenant
Governor of Delhi, a judiciary and a legislative.

consisting of 70 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).
