Description |
The
features of the missile system and the test include:
-
The system is called the Medium Range Surface-to-Air
Missile system (MR-SAM)
-
It was flight tested at the Integrated Missile Test Range in
Balasore, Odisha.
-
The missile intercepted the target 40 km from the
launch site. This is the first time that the system
was tested in India.
-
The supersonic missile system was jointly
developed with the Israel Aerospace Industries.
-
It can intercept supersonic aircraft, helicopters
and even missiles and is expected to fill a huge
gap for the Indian Air Force.
-
There is no comparable system in the world
to match the capabilities.
-
Earlier, a naval version of the same missile was
tested in Israel.
-
Many Indian industries like Bharat Electronic
Limited, L&T, Bharat Dynamics Limited and the Tata Group
have developed or manufactured a number of sub systems which
have been put into use in this flight test.
-
The missile, guided by a radar system along
with on-board avionics, has hit a
pilot-less target craft and destroyed it.
