- July 01, 1949: The merger of two princely states of India,
Cochin and Travancore, into the state of
Thiru-Kochi in the Indian
Union on this day ended more than 1,000 years of princely rule
by the Cochin Royal Family.
- November 01, 1956:
It was formed on this day following the States
Reorganisation Act by combining Malayalam-speaking regions
of South India. Presently this day is observed as the KERALA
FORMATION DAY.
- February 04, 1990: On this
day, Ernakulam, eastern part of the mainland of Kochi city
in Kerala, was declared the FIRST TOTALLY LITERATE
DISTRICT OF INDIA.

Description |
- Kerala has been a major spice exporter since 3000 BCE,
according to Sumerian records and it is still referred to as
the "Garden of Spices" or as the "Spice Garden of India".
