- 1707 to 1760: After the
death of Emperor Aurangzeb in 1707, between 1720 and 1760,
the Marathas took control of most of Madhya Pradesh.
Different parts of Madhya Pradesh remained under the control
of the Peshwa of Pune, Holkars of Indore, the Bhonsles of
Nagpur and the Scindias of Gwalior.
- November 1817 to February, 1818:
Third Anglo-Maratha War (1817–1818) was the final and
decisive conflict between the British East India Company
(EIC) and the Maratha Empire in India. The war left the East
India Company in control of most of India.
- 1857: During the 1857
uprising, rebellions happened in the northern parts of the
state, led by leaders like Tatya Tope. However, these were
crushed by the British and the princes loyal to them.
- 1861: The British merged
the Nagpur Province with the Saugor and Nerbudda Territories
to form the Central Provinces.
- 1950: After the
independence of India, Madhya Pradesh was created in 1950
from the former British Central Provinces and Berar and the
princely states of Makrai and Chhattisgarh, with Nagpur as
the capital of the state. The new states of Madhya Bharat,
Vindhya Pradesh, and Bhopal were formed out of the Central
India Agency.
- January 01, 1950: The
princely State of AJAIGARH Acceded to India on this day.
- 1809: After Ajaigarh
was captured by the British in 1809, it became a
princely state in the Bundelkhand Agency of the Central
India Agency.
- 1765: Ajaigarh was
founded by Guman Singh, a bundela Rajput who was the
nephew of Raja Pahar Singh of Jaitpur.
- The rulers of Ajaigarh bore the title of sawai
maharaja.
- After accession of Ajaigarh to India, the ruling
chief was granted a privy purse of Rs. 74,700/-, and the
courtesy use of his styles and titles. All of these were
revoked by the government of India in 1971, at the time
when these privileges were revoked from all erstwhile
princes.
- Ajaigarh became part of the new Indian state of
Vindhya Pradesh, and most of the territory of the former
state, including the town of Ajaigarh, became part of
Panna District, with a smaller portion going to
Chhatarpur District.

- November 01, 1956: The
states of Madhya Bharat, Vindhya Pradesh, and Bhopal were
merged into Madhya Pradesh, and the Marathi-speaking
southern region Vidarbha, which included Nagpur, was ceded
to Bombay state. Bhopal became the new capital of the state.
So this day came to be known and observed as MADHYA PRADESH
FORMATION DAY.
- November 01, 2000: The
Chhattisgarh state was formed on this day by partitioning 16
Chhattisgarhi-speaking southeastern districts of Madhya
Pradesh. Raipur was made its capital city.

General in the Mughal army.
