- December 27, 2016: In Uttar
Pradesh, 15 coaches of Sealdah Ajmer Express train derailed
near Rura railway station in Kanpur Dehat district. Over
fifty passengers are reported to be injured and there is no
confirmation of any casualty so far.
- November 19, 2016: 14
coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed near Kanpur on
this day, killing about 100 people and wounding many others.
- September 04, 2015:
Derailment - At least 42 people were injured after five
coaches of the Chennai-Mangalore Express derailed in Tamil
Nadu. The accident occurred near Virudhachalam, about 300km
southwest of Chennai.
- Aug-24, 2015: Five people including a
Karnataka legislator were killed when a granite-laden truck
rammed into an express train at a level crossing in
Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur.
- August 04, 2015: At least 35 people
died and 25 were injured when two trains derailed
within minutes of each other while crossing a small bridge
in Madhya Pradesh.
- July 01, 2014: A dacoity
took place on board the Janshatabdi express (Patna-Ranchi)
Train in Bihar, India. More than 300 passengers were looted.
More than 30 armed dacoits looted of gold worth several
lakhs from passengers in the AC coaches. It happened between
Kodarma in Jharkhand and Gaya in Bihar.
- March 20, 2014: Six coaches of a local
train at Titwala station, near Kalyan in Maharashtra, got
uncoupled from the rest of the train. It derailed and killed
an 18-year-old student and nine others.
- May 04, 2014: Sawantvadi Passenger
train derailed between Nagothane and Roha stations killing
near about 20 passengers and injuring 100 others.
- December 28, 2013: More than 24 people
were killed when Nanded-Bangalore express train near
Kothacheru railway station in Anantapur district caught
fire.
- November 28, 2013: 26 people were
killed and 13 injured when an air-conditioned coach of the
Bangalore-Nanded Express train caught fire.
- November 15, 2013: 13 Coaches of
Ernakulam Bound Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Lakshadweep
Superfast Express were derailed near Nashik district. About
4 persons died and dozens were injured.
- August 19, 2013: Rajya Rani Express
ran over 35 people at the Dhamara station near Saharsa in
Bihar. The victims were mostly Hindu pilgrims returning from
prayers at the nearby Katyayani mandir. The chief minister
of Bihar State, Nitish Kumar, called it "the rarest of rare
tragedies".
- June 30, 2012: A coach of the
Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express caught fire killing 35
passengers and injuring 25 others.
- June 12, 2012: 25 people were killed
and dozens injured when the Bangalore-bound Hampi Express
rammed into a stationary goods train just outside the
railway station of Penukonda in Andhra Pradesh.
- July 10, 2011: 71 people were killed
by the derailing of Kalka mail at Malwa station.
- May 28, 2010: Naxals derailed
Jyaneshwari Express and killed 148 people.
- July 19, 2010: 66 people were killed
when Uttar Banga Express hit Vananchal Express from behind
at Sainthia station.
- June 22, 2003: In a first major
accident 53 people were killed and 25 were injured when the
Karwar-Mumbai Central Holiday Special’s three coaches and
engine got derailed near Vaibhavwadi station in Maharashtra.
- July 21, 2001: Mangalore- Chennai mail
was derailed while crossing Kadalundi River, near Calicut,
Kerala on 21st July, 2001. 57 were killed and over 200 were
injured.
- July 08, 1988: Peruman Train Tragedy: the Bangalore – Kanyakumari Island Express train derailed on
the Peruman bridge over Ashtamudi Lake, near Perinadu,
Kollam, Kerala, India and fell into the lake, killing 105
people. Some arguably say that tornado caused this accident.
- June 06, 1981: A passenger
train travelling between Mansi and Saharsa, India, jumped
the tracks at a bridge crossing the Bagmati river. The
figure of those killed in this accident is reported to be
close to 1000.
