Modi-Putin talks on the eve of BRICS meet at Goa:
- India will buy the S-400 Triumf air defence systems from
Russia, worth over USD 5 billion.
- India and Russia will collaborate in making four state
of art frigates, besides setting up a joint production
facility for making Kamov helicopters.
- The deals were announced following Narendra Modi -
Vladimir Putin talks on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit
being held at Goa.
- S-400 'Triumf' has the capability to destroy
incoming hostile aircraft, missiles and even drones at
ranges of up to 400 km.

S-400 Triumf missile shield deal:

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister
Narendra Modi signed a $5-billion deal for India to procure
one of the world's most advanced air-defence systems, the
S-400 Triumf missile shield on this day. The system is
expected to be delivered by 2020.

China was the first foreign buyer to buy from Russia in 2014
to procure this system. Moscow has already started
delivering (as of Oct 2018) an undisclosed number of the
S-400 missile systems to Beijing.
- Besides this, India and Russia
signed about 20 more contracts / agreements of national
importance.
