June 21, 2016: Indian Prime
Minster Narendra Modi performed yoga along with 30,000
persons at
Chandigarh to celebrate the 2nd
International Day of Yoga.
December 11, 2014: June 21 was declared as the International Day of Yoga by
the United Nations General Assembly on
this day.
Description
It is celebrated all over the world, on June
Solstice, which usually falls on June 21.
Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual
practice or discipline that originated in India.
Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient
tradition, which is over 5000 years old.
It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and
action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and
nature; a holistic approach to health and
well-being.
About 40000 people, including Indian PM Narendra
Modi and a large number of dignitaries, performed
21 Yoga asanas (yoga postures) for 35 minutes to observe the
first International Day of Yoga at Rajpath in New Delhi on
21 June 2015.
The day devoted to Yoga was observed by millions across
the world.
Yoga is not just about doing a few joint, muscle or
stretching exercises every day.
It is a combination of three things: different
postures, breathing patterns and meditation.
Practicing yoga has proved to improve
relationships.
A relaxed, happy and contented mind is better
equipped to deal with relationships of every
kind—official or personal.
