FIREFIGHTER'S DAY |
|
Date-wise Events |
- May 04: Observed on this
day every year.
|
|
Description |
-
Firefighting is the act of extinguishing fires and saving
the life and properties in fire accidents.
-
Fire prevention and the need for more intensive and thorough
training is one of the main aspects of International Fire
Fighters Day.
-
A firefighter fights fires to prevent loss of life, and/or
destruction of property and the environment. Firefighting is
a highly technical skill that requires professionals who
have spent years of training in both general firefighting
techniques and specialized areas of expertise.
-
The major hazards associated with these situations include
Smoke, which is becoming increasingly dangerous due to the
rise in synthetic household materials, Oxygen deficient
atmosphere and Toxic atmospheres.
-
International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) is observed on May 4
every year, which used to be a traditional Firefighters' Day
in many European countries, because it is the day of Saint
Florian, patron saint of firefighters.
-
St.Florian is known as the protector of those who have come
in danger of fire.
-
One of the most significant symbols of International Fire
Fighters Day is the red and blue ribbon.
-
The red colour represents the element of fire whereas the
blue colour would represent the element of water.
-
Coincidently, red and blue are also the colours recognized
world-wide to signify emergency services.
-
The ribbon is traditionally worn to show support for
International Fire Fighters Day.
