Description |
- On 20 December 2002, it established the World Solidarity
Fund, as a trust fund of the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP). Its objective is to eradicate poverty and
promote human and social development in developing
countries, in particular among the poorest segments of their
populations.
- Ban Ki-moon's Message for International Human Solidarity
Day 20 December 2015:
- "By adopting the historic 2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development, world leaders expressed their
resolve to seek shared progress and prosperity based on
a spirit of global solidarity.”
- This day is a day:
- to celebrate our unity in diversity;
- to remind governments to respect their commitments
to international agreements;
- to raise public awareness of the importance of
solidarity;
- to encourage debate on the ways to promote
solidarity for the achievement of the Millennium
Development Goals including poverty eradication;a day of
action to encourage new initiatives for poverty
eradication.
- Development and Solidarity are considered as Two Keys to
Peace.
- In a world of common challenges, no nation can succeed
on its own; solidarity must be the foundation for global
solutions.
