- November 14, Every year: His birthday, 14 November, is celebrated in India as
Baal Divas ("Children's Day").
- November 27, 1946: He
appealed to US and the Soviet Union to end nuclear testing
and to start nuclear disarmament, stating that such an
action would "save humanity from the ultimate disaster".
- October 13, 1949: He had the unique honour of addressing the U.S. House
and Senate separately on this day.
- April 02, 1954: He was the
first statesman to call for a “stand still” agreement on
nuclear testing on this day. However, this did little to
stop the extensive nuclear testing that characterized the
following 35 years, not subsiding until the end of the Cold
War in the late 1980s.
- June 11, 1964 - On this day, his ashes
were scattered all over the country.

- His father, Motilal Nehru, was a
renowned lawyer and one of Mahatma Gandhi's important
associates.
- The Nehru family had been a family of high
achievers.
- One of Nehru's sisters, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit,
later became the first woman president of the UN
General Assembly.
- The unfortunate incident of Jallianwalla Bagh
massacre, also known as Amritsar massacre, where
hundreds of innocent persons including women and children
were shot dead and thousands others were left injured, and
the display of malicious pleasure about this incident by
high level British officials in certain forums, thoroghly
changed the course of the life of Jawaharlal Nehru,
who vowed to fight the British and seek full freedom for
India.

are dedicated to Nehru's memory.
- The Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi is arguably
among the most prestigious universities in India.
- The Jawaharlal Nehru Port near the city of Mumbai is a
modern port and dock designed to handle a huge cargo and
traffic load.
- His residence in Delhi is preserved as the Teen Murti
House now has Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, and one of
five Nehru Planetariums that were set in Mumbai, Delhi,
Bangalore, Allahabad and Pune.
- The Nehru family homes at Anand Bhavan and Swaraj Bhavan
are also preserved to commemorate Nehru and his family's
legacy.
