- 1925 to 1942:
He was the founder of Seth
Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College
and King Edward VII Memorial
Hospital, Mumbai. He served in these
institutions as their first Dean
over a period of 18 years.
- 1938 & 1942: He was twice
jailed (1938
and 1942) by the British government
for his role in Gandhi's Satyagraha
movement.
- October 17, 1947:
93 cases of
penicillin, a gift from the Canadian Red Cross to India
arrived at New Delhi in a special plane from Canada on this
day, were presented to
Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, the then Health Minister
in the Government of India at the Palam aerodrome. Dr.
Jivraj Mehta, Director General of Health Services and Sardar
Balwant Singh Puri of the Indian Red Cross were also present
at the occasion.
- September 04, 1948:
He served as the first "Dewan"
(Prime Minister) of the erstwhile
Baroda state in free India and was
sworn-in on this day.

He became the first Chief MInister
of Gujarat.
