Description |
- Language of anciet India with a history of over 3500
years.
- A primary holy language of Hinduism.
- Rig Veda, written in Vedic Sanskrit (pre-classical form
of Sanskrit), is known as the earliest surviving text.
- The formalization of the Sanskrit language is credited
to Panini, who composed Ashtadhyayee (Eight-Chapter
Grammar). his work is believed to be from sometime
between 6th and 4th centuries BCE.
- The decline of Sanskrit started around thirteenth
century with the onset of islamic invasions, muslim rules in
the form of Sultanates and later the Mughal empire.
- The final rites of this great language were performed
with the fall of Kashmir (then a premier centre of Sanskrit
literary creativity) around 13th century
- The International Association of Sanskrit
Studies (IASS):
- It is an organisation whose primary purpose is to
arrange the World Sanskrit Conference, which is usually
held once every three years.
- The association was formed as a result of the 1972
International Sanskrit Conference that was sponsored by
India's central government with collaboration from
UNESCO.
- The 1972 New Delhi conference was retrospectively
recognised as the "First World Sanskrit
Conference".

The first World Sanskrit Conference was held in Vigyan Bhavan,
New Delhi, India between 26–31 March 1972. Dr. Ranganathan was
its chairman.
