- 1887: He started his
journalistic career as the Editor of the Hindi daily
'‘Hindosthan’' in this year.
- 1905: Ganga Mahasabha is an
Indian organisation working for the conservation of Ganges
river, founded by him in this year.
- 1909: He also was the
founder of the English newspaper ‘The Leader’ published from
Allahabad in this year.
- 1910: He started the Hindi
paper `Maryada'.
- 1916: He was the founder of
Banaras Hindu University (BHU), founded in 1916 under the
BHU Act of 1915.
- 1919: He became the Vice Chancellor of
the BHU.
- 1924: He along with the
help of national leaders Lala Lajpat Rai and M. R. Jayakar
and industrialist Ghanshyam Das Birla, acquired Hindustan
Times and saved it from an untimely demise. Thereafter he
remained its Chairman upto 1946.
- 1928: He joined other
leaders protesting against the Simon Commission, which had
been set up by the British to consider India's future.
- 1931: He was a delegate at
the Second Round Table Conference.
- 1932: He was appointed at
Delhi as the President of Congress after the arrest of
Sarojini Naidu.
- April 25, 1932: During the
Civil Disobedience Movement, he was arrested on this day.
- May 30, 1932: He issued a
manifesto urging concentration on the "Buy Indian" movement
in India.

September 25, 1932: An
agreement known as
Poona Pact was signed between
Dr. Ambedkar
(on behalf of the depressed classes among Hindus) and
Malaviya (on behalf of the other Hindus). The agreement gave
reserved seats for the depressed classes in the Provisional
legislatures, within the general electorate and not by
creating a separate electorate. Due to the pact, the
depressed class received 148 seats in the legislature,
instead of the 71 as allocated in the Communal Award
proposal of the British Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald.
- 1936: Due to his efforts a
Hindi version o ‘The Hindustan Times’was launched in this
year.
- 1938: He relinquished his
office of the Vice Chancellor of BHU in this year.
- 1946: He ceased to be the
Chairman of Hindustan Times (after being in this position
for 22 years).
- 1961: The Indian Postal
Department issued postage stamp in his honour to celebrate
his 100th birth anniversary.
- 1961: His life-size statue
was unveiled by the then President of India Dr. S.
Radhakrishnan in front of the BHU main gate on the occasion
of his birth centenary.

December 25, 1971: In front
of the main Gate of the Parliament House in Delhi, there
exists a bust of Madan Mohan Malaviya, which was inaugurated
by the former Lt. Governor of Delhi, Dr. A.N. Jha on this
day.

December 25, 2008: On his birth
anniversary on this day, the national memorial of Mahamana
Madan Mohan Malaviya was inaugurated by the then president A
P J Abdul Kalam at 53, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, in Delhi.

Department issued postage stamp in his honour to celebrate
his 150th birth anniversary.

posthumously conferred with Bharat Ratna, India's highest
civilian award, on this day.
