A famed Bollywood Film
Music Director of the
1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

After completion of one year military training
in the year 1943, he joined the Army as a Second Lieutenant and
served there for two years.
- After the end of World War II, he left the
Army and returned to Mumbai to pursue his musical interests.
- In 1946, he joined All India Radio, Lucknow,
as Programme Assistant. But he resigned soon.
- In the year 1948, he got his first opportunity
to sing a film duet, though this song was never released or used in
the film.
- After assisting S.D. Burman and Shyam Sunder
for a short time, Madan scored his first big break with the film
Aankhen in 1950.
- Two of his songs, namely "Sawan ke maheeney
mein" and the classic song "Kabhi na Kabhi koi na koi toh aayega",
both filmed on Dev Anand, are among the most well known renditions
of the renowned singer Mohammad Rafi.
- Over a musical span of 25 years Madan Mohan
has composed music for 95 released Hindi films (648 songs), 12
shelved Hindi films (28 songs) and one documentary (one song)
produced by Films Division.
- He tried his luck a number of times to
become an actor, but he could not succeed, though he is
credited with screen appearances in Shaheed (1948), Ansoo (1953) and
Munimji (1954).

two successive years for the songs Nainon Mein Badra Chhaaye (Mera

- Andhra Pradesh Film Journalists Award for best
music direction for the film Anpadh (1962).
- Uttar Pradesh Film Journalists Award for best
music direction for Dil Ki Rahen (1973).
- He also won the CINE MUSIC DIRECTORS

- Posthumous Awards for his tunes used in
Veer-Zaara (2004).
