- He was Maharaja Ranjit Singh's youngest son.
- Also known as Dalip Singh, he was the last Maharaja of
the Sikh Empire.
- After the assassinations of four of his predecessors, he
came to power in September 1843, at the age of five, later
kidnapped and exiled to Britain at age 15 where he was
befriended and much admired by Queen Victoria.
- His mother had effectively ruled when he was very young.
- A film titled Maharaja Duleep Singh: A Monument Of
Injustice, was made in 2007.

- Sep 16, 1843: At the tender age of five, he
was proclaimed Maharaja of the Sikh empire on this day.
- Dec 13, 1845: On this day, the British
declared a war on the Sikhs; on winning the first Anglo-Sikh
war, the Maharaja was retained by the British as a nominal
ruler but the Maharani, his Mother, was imprisoned and
exiled.
- Jan 16, 1861: After her imprisonment and
exile by the British in Dec 1845, his mother could meet him
on this day.
- Mar 29, 1849: In the seconfd Anglo-Sikh war,
the Sikhs were again defeated and Punjab was annexed by the
British on this day.
- Dec 21, 1849: After the annexation of
Punjab, the Maharaja was deposed when he was about 10 years
of age and was moved out of Lahore on this day under the
isolated care of a trusted British officer.
- Mar 30, 1986: Despite the unwillingness of
the British authorities to let him go back to India, on this
day, he set sail for India but was intercepted on the way
and was forced to return to Europe.
- Apr 19, 2007: His white marble portrait bust
sculptored in Rome in 1859 fetched 1.7 million pounds in an
auction held on this day.
