- 1303:
Chittaur was given the name KHIJRABAD
by Ala-ud-din-Khilji after his victory in this year; but
this names never gained public acceptance.

1568: During the reign of his father,
Chittaur, the capital of Mewar, was conquered by
the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Consequently, Chittor was renamed
as Akbarabad; but this names never gained public acceptance.

1572: After Udai Singh's death, Pratap became
Rana of Mewar with the support of the elder nobles.
- 1576: Battle of Haldighati:
- Akbar deputed Man Singh I and Asaf Khan I to lead a
force against Pratap, who advanced with a force
numbering almost half the Mughal numbers and took a
position near Haldighati.
- June 18, 1576: The
Battle of Haldighati was fought on this day for around
four hours. Despite initial gains, the pressure of
Mughal army was so much that the Rana Pratap had to
retreat from the battlefield. The battle resulted in
Mughal victory.
- June 23, 1576: Man Singh I
conquered Gogunda which was later recaptured by Pratap in
July 1576. Pratap then made Kumbhalgarh his temporary
capital.
- 1582:
After suffering a few defeats, the turning point
again came during this year when Rana Pratap Inflicted a crushing
defeat to the Mughal army in Dewair. From this battle onwards Rana Pratap moved from being
defensive to Offensive and in a very short
time he regained all the lost land of Mewar except Ajmer and
Chittaur.

- The struggle between Rajputs led by Pratap Singh, and
the Mughal Empire under Akbar, has often
been often compared with the struggle between
Shivaji and Aurangzeb a little
less than a century later.
- Maharana Pratap saw Mughals as foreigners
who had invaded India and that is why he refused to
surrender.
- His father, Udai Singh, had condemned
the house of Man Singh for their marriage
with foreigners.
- When Chittaur fell, Udai Singh moved the capital to his
residence at Udaipur.
- It was a beginning of a life long battle for the
retaking of Chittaur.
- Chittaur is seen by most Hindus across the world as a
sacred site, due to the amount of human blood and
sacrifice that has been witnessed there.
- Maharana Pratap altogether had 11 wives and 17 sons & 5
daughters.
- Mewar was later conquered by Jehangir
in 1610 A.D.
