- He is the only actor to win the award based on
performances in two different films on two different
occasions, Mathilukal and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1986) and

- He has also won five Kerala State Film Awards and eleven
Filmfare Awards.
- In 1998, he was awarded the Padma Shri
for his contributions towards the arts.
