- He is known for acting in and
directing films with patriotic
themes, and has been given the
nickname "Bhaarat Kumar".
- After independence and partition
of India, the family of Manoj Kumar
migrated to Delhi.
- He got his first lead role in
Kaanch ki Gudiya in
1960.
- The 1965 film ‘Shaheed’,
based on the life of Bhagat
Singh, a great martyr in
the struggle for India’s freedom,
helped Manoj to create his public
image as of a patriotic hero.
- He made his debut as
Director with the film ‘Upkaar’
which was based on the suggestion of
the them Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur
Shastri, who wanted some film to be
based on the then popular slogan ‘Jai
Jawan, Jai Kisan’. Upkaar
was a hit and won him his
first Filmfare Best Director Award.
- After his retirement, he decided
to enter the politics and
joined Shiv Sena in 2004.

"Manojkumar Goswami Road".
