- A prominent leader of the Sikh
community in the 20th century.
- He was instrumental in
organizing the Shiromani
Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee
(SGPC).
- Later, he also led the
Sikh's demand for a Sikh-majority
state in Punjab, India.
- He was also among the
founders of the Vishwa Hindu
Parishad.
- During the ‘Civil Disobedience
Movement’ of Mahatma Gandhi, he
became a popular leader all over
India.
- Due to internal political
differences and bickerings among the
sikh organizations, Master Tara
Singh left for a
self-imposed exile to
Burma, Paonta Sahib and other places
bidding a farewell to politics.
- But soon he was called back.

November 01, 1966: Owing to the efforts of Master
Tara Singh, a separate state
of Punjab was created on
this day.
The existing state was trifurcated
into the Sikh-majority Punjab, which
included the Sikh holy city of
Amritsar. Hindu-majority areas were
divided into the states of
Himachal Pradesh and
Haryana.
