- He is an best known for his development of the
Saha equation, used to describe chemical and physical
conditions in stars.
- He belonged to a poor family and had to struggle a lot
to achieve the rise in life.
- He was the first director of Indian Association for the
Cultivation of Science (IACS), the oldest research institute
in India.
- Shortly after the end of the First World War there was
announcement confirming Einstein's theory of general
relativity.
- Saha got deeply interested in the relativity theory. He,
jointly with Satyendra Nath Bose, prepared an English
translation of Einstein's papers, later published in the
form of a book by the University of Calcutta.
- The study of relativity led Saha publish many research
papers. Based on these, the Calcutta University awarded him
the D.Sc. degree in 1918.
- In 1940 the British rulers in Delhi formed a Board for
scientific and Industrial Research (BSIR) with Shanti Swarup
Bhatnagar as the head. Saha was invited to be a member.
- His works have been recognized the world over and,
according to some, his findings were one of the top ten
achievements of science in the 20th century.
