- She got married at the age of 19, on 10 May 1613,
to Prince Khurram, later known as
Emperor Shah Jahan.
- Shah Jahan conferred upon her the title "Mumtaz
Mahal".
- She was Shah Jahan's third wife and was
his favourite.
- She died in Burhanpur in the Deccan
(now in Madhya Pradesh) during the birth of their
14th child.
- Her children included Aurangzeb; the
Imperial Prince Dara Shikoh, and
Jahanara Begum, the Imperial Princess.
- After her death, Shah Jahan went into secluded
mourning for a year.
- Her body was later disinterred in Burhanpur in December
1631 and transported to Agra, where it was interred in a
small building on the banks of the Yamuna River.
