- 1941: At the age of 9
years, he had won an All-India sitar competition and became
the youngest musician employed by All India Radio.
- 1968: He was decorated with
the Padma Shri Award by the Govt of India.
- 1974: He received the
prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
- 1986: At the time of his
death in 1986, he was a faculty member at the Ali Akbar
College of Music in Calcutta.
- 1986: He was posthumously
awarded the Padma Bhushan title by the
Government of India in 1986.

main teacher.
