He was also the Director of the International Centre for Advanced Studies in Physical Sciences at RUB. He held a Ph.D. in Physics from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, India.  He earned a second doctorate in Theoretical Plasma Physics from Umea University (UmU) in Sweden.
