- He was the fifth spiritual successor of Swaminarayan by
the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, an international Hindu
socio-spiritual organization.
- “In the joy of others, lies our own” the motto of the
BAPS.
- His original birth name is Shantilal Patel, and is
ordained Shastri Narayanswarupdas.
- He was strongly inclined towards spirituality from a
young age.
- BAPS stands for Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam
Swaminarayan.
- BAPS is a global as well as one of the wealthiest Hindu
organizations.
- Devotees believe that Pramukh Swami Maharaj is the
manifestation of Akshar, the eternal abode of God.
- In November 1939, he left his home to join his guru
Shastriji Maharaj and his sadhus.
- Shastriji Maharaj gave him primary initiation, ‘’parshad
diksha,‘’ and renamed him Shanti Bhagat.
- After he mastered Sanskrit as per the wishes of his
guru, Shanti Bhagat was given the ‘’bhagvati diksha‘’,
initiated as a sadhu, and named Sadhu Narayanswarupdas.
- Renouncing worldly pleasures, he adopted vows of
celibacy (nishkam), non-covetousness (nirlobh), non-taste
(nisswad), non-attachment (nissneh) and humility (nirman)
and committed himself to lifelong dedication and service to
God and humanity.
